A May 29 recount of the Jefferson County judge’s race did not change the outcome, according to the Jefferson County Election Commission.
Jefferson County Sheriff Gerald Robinson lost one vote in the recount, and former Jefferson County Judge Dutch King gained two votes. Complete but unofficial totals after the recount are:Robinson: 4,163 King: 4,062
King had requested the recount last week after coming up short to Robinson during the May 22 Democratic Primary. No Republican ran for the seat. Robinson plans to retire from the sheriff’s office at the end of the year.
The election commission said that the “changes are due to transposing errors in reading (voting machine) tapes.”
The commission also said that a missing tape from St. James United Methodist Church was found in a results tape bag.
“For an unexplained reason a new poll judge put it in there,” an election commission news release said. “There were three witnesses when it was discovered.”
A message left for King went unreturned.
