Southeast Arkansas College plans to open a career closet with gently used business casual and business professional attire available free to all currently enrolled SEARK students.

The target launch date to open the career closet is Tuesday, March 27. The career closet will be located in the General Studies North building and will be open Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 11:30 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. or by appointment. Donations of clothing will be accepted on Fridays from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. and tax deduction receipts will be provided.

The clothes closet will be used to assist students as they prepare for job readiness and initial interviews, according to a news release.

“Most college students endure economic struggle, so SEARK College staff has adopted the philosophy that servicing the whole student, not merely their academic needs, promotes positive longevity,” according to the release. “Complete student preparedness is essential to the success of each graduate as they move forward into the work-a-day world.”

Deb Pyland, director of student retention, spearheaded this project.

“When you address the student’s academical, professional and personal needs, it fosters confidence not only to succeed, but also to persevere on toward future achievements,” Pyland said.

Steven Bloomberg is president of SEARK.

“I believe every higher education facility should have this type of resource for students,” Bloomberg said. “Appropriate dress and presentation lends value and confidence to our young professionals preparing to enter a new level of employment.”

The career closet will be stocked with gently used men’s business suits, women’s business suits, button-up business professional shirts, professional slacks, skirts, belts, blouses, shoes, handbags and accessories.

Several volunteers from around the campus will donate their time toward this activity. The steering committee includes the following SEARK employees Tracy Cobb, Gene White, Terry Harden, Nerva Copeland, Temeke Butler, Kim Williams and Lynnette Bloomberg.
