Two employees of the Huddle House Restaurant at 7335 Sheridan Rd. were not injured but forced to lay face-down on the floor during an armed robbery shortly after 11 p.m. Wednesday, May 18, according to the White Hall Police Department.
Officer Stephen Moreau reported that he and Sgt. Sandy Castleberry were dispatched to the scene at 11:23 p.m.
The officers were told by one of the two employees that they were doing some cleaning when an unidentified black male entered through the front door, holding a handgun, reportedly a .22 caliber revolver. The suspect pointed at one of the workers and told him to lie on the floor. The other employee was ordered to open a register and give him the contents.
Initially, the cash drawer wouldn’t open. The suspect then walked to behind the counter, where the worker entered a code to open the register and showed the suspect a button that had to be pushed for the drawer to open.
The suspect pushed the button, which opened the drawer. The suspect ordered the second employee to lay face-down on the floor, and the suspect then took the drawer – containing a reported $355 – with him as he fled.
The crime scene was processed and a video from a security camera was taken into evidence. WHPD Detective Tommy Kelly said Tuesday that an investigation was continuing and some “persons of interest” had been established.
