White Hall Mayor James “Jitters” Morgan has declared Friday as “Beat the Billies Day” here.
White Hall High School’s football Bulldogs will be hosting Monticello in a 5A-Southeast Conference football game at 7 p.m. Friday. The Dogs are ranked fifth in the state by The Arkansas Democrat-Gazette while the Billies are No. 2.
Morgan is also encouraging fans planning to attend the game to participate in a “blackout” being orchestrated by White Hall players.
“Everyone needs to wear nothing but black and bring a red towel to wave,” said Morgan. “The players say they want Monticello to know that when playing here, they’ve got to deal with the best fans in the state.
“Fans are asked to not only wave their towels, but to also stand as much as possible and be especially loud. As a former football player myself, I can promise you that fan support like that can lift a home team and unnerve a visiting team as well.”
Fans are urged to bring their own towels, but a limited  number of towels will be available at the stadium. Local businessmen Dean Dancer and Greg Terry and the White Hall Police Officers Association are providing the free towels.
“I’m happy that the police department can take part in this activity and show our football coaches, players and fans that we’re behind them 100 percent,” said Police Chief Noel Foster. “And we’re looking forward to a big win by the Dogs.”
