After surviving a couple of close calls in earlier rounds, White Hall’s 15-year-old Jr. Babe Ruth baseball team wrapped up the combined District 3-4 title with a 14-8 smacking of Seabrook here on Monday, July 6.
With Dylan James providing the offensive muscle with a grand slam home run, Hunter Brown secured the mound win with a solid seven-inning performance.
Brown added to his cause by giving James stout support at the plate, collecting three hits. Chris Bryan and Adam Law each contributed to the run production with a pair of belts.
In the tourney’s opening frame, White Hall eked out an 8-7 win over Seabrook behind the late heroics of Cash Arcement, Jacob Holland and Daniel Rissinger.
Down 7-6 in the bottom of the seventh, the locals rallied when Arcement and Rissinger ripped consecutive doubles. Holland then doubled in the pair to give White Hall the victory.
Pierre Sloan grabbed the mound win in relief of James.
In the second round, White Hall showed no mercy against Sheridan, stopping the visitors in an 11-1 assault.
Dennis Robertson was the starting pitcher, yielding to reliever James. Sparking White Hall offensively were Thomas Bush and Conner Kelsey, who each smacked a pair of hits.
In a semifinal match against Bryant, the locals again trailed in the bottom of the seventh and final inning before storming back for a dramatic one-run win.
Bryant was ahead 1-0, but Sloan, who shared pitching duties with James, knotted the score with a homer to right. Holland, the next batter, rocketed a towering home run to left, advancing White Hall to the state tourney at Pine Bluff’s Taylor Field on Friday, July 17.
