Teresa Bennett – Work Can Be a Ton of Fun

   To all our treasured readers:
I would like to thank you for the loyalty you have shown to this newspaper throughout the past 25-plus years. I simply can’t stress enough just how important you are to us.
The Journal is a mirror image of our community, and we are what we are with the help of – you guessed it – you. We appreciate each and every submitted photo and article, “heads-up” and reminder we receive, and we can always use more. We depend deeply on our community to help keep us in perspective.
I’m sure most of you have already observed some changes in our paper during the past year.
Just to name a few, we’ve strived to become “more local,” we’ve increased our font size for our readers’ benefit (we continue to receive compliments on how the larger type makes the newspaper easier to read) and we’ve successfully launched our Web site.
My favorite change? The school news pages, initiated just a few months ago.
In the past, school news was scattered throughout each edition to help fill empty spots, but now we have a dedicated space of at least two pages every week.
I’ve been put in charge of school news, and the experience has been a ton of fun.
There’s nothing like watching children’s reactions when they know they’re going to be “in the paper.” Their excitement energizes me, and their enthusiasm is . . . well, priceless.
There are some more changes in store for The Journal in the near future, and we always welcome your suggestions. Without you, we wouldn’t exist.
I can’t tell you how good it makes everyone at The Journal feel when we receive notes of thanks and to see our work displayed throughout our schools and local businesses. That’s what, in my opinion, verifies our individual and collective efforts.
On occasion, we have to report on matters that may be of a negative nature, but that just comes with the territory. For the most part, we aim at keeping a positive outlook as we strive to help our community move forward, but it’s our responsibility to keep you informed of both the good and bad. That’s the real duty of a newspaper.
I love my job! And I have to give you much of the credit.
Just knowing that I have a role in documenting life in our community – aiding in the creation and preservation of our little place in this big world – makes me happy and proud. And, again, I have you to thank.
I want to brag a little on what has become my Journal family. I work closely with these folk five (and sometimes more) days a week. We are small in number and sometimes stretched extremely thin in meeting our work responsibilities, but we’ve become dependant upon one another whether devoting ourselves to meeting a work deadline or devoting ourselves as friends and supporting and lifting each other in our personal endeavors.
With Rick Joslin’s encouragement and wonderful way with words and Vicki Kelly’s cheerful attitude and optimism, who has time for a bad day?
