    J. C. Mitchell, 85, of White Hall, died Thursday, May 27, 2010, at Jefferson Regional Medical Center in Pine Bluff.
    He was born June 7, 1924, at DuQuoin, Ill., a son of the late June and Leona Layton Mitchell.
    He attended schools in DuQuoin and worked for Armour Chemicals in Lyons, Ill. He was a United States Navy veteran and attended Hardin Baptist Church.
    In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Gertrude Knight Mitchell; a step-son, Al Roberts; and a grandchild.
    He is survived by two step-children, Frieda Wall of White Hall, and Charles Roberts of Thebes, Ill.; a brother, Russ Mitchell of Peoria, Ill.; four grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
    Graveside services were held Tuesday at Memorial Park Cemetery. Rudy Davis officiated.  Arrangements were by Cranford Funeral Home of White Hall.
    Memorials may be made to Hardin Baptist Church.
