Mr. Rushing was born Dec. 29, 1922, in Chattanooga, Okla., a son of the late Charley and Lena Humphry Rushing.
He served in U S Army as a medic in World War II and Korea. He finished his twenty year career military medical corp at the Pine Bluff Arsenal dispensary. He later worked as a technician at the Directory of Biologic Operations at the Arsenal. After retirement, he worked at Smithwick Outboard Motor repair Service repairing and rebuilding boat motors. In his spare time, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening and teaching a young son and daughter that fish bait ought to swim in the water, not the tops of trees.
He was a member of Hardin Baptist Church.
Mr. Rushing was preceded in death by three sisters, Katherine Wright, Willie Mae Taylor and Louise Martin.
Survivors include his wife, Virginia Sloop Rushing, whom he married Nov. 23, 1946, in Oklahoma City, Okla.; son and daughter-in-law, Larry G. and Barbara Rushing of White Hall; daughter and son-in-law, Vivian and Paul Sims of Dallas Tex.; sister, Nettie Hedgecock of Marysville, Calif.; a grandson; two granddaughters; and a great grandson.
The family receive friends at Robinson's Thursday Nov. 3. Graveside services were held Friday, Nov. 4, 2011, at 11 a.m., in Memorial Park Cemetery by Ralph Robinson & Son Funeral Directors. Reverend Johnny Taylor officiated.
