White Hall Volunteer Fire Fighters Brian Croft (left) and Steven Rice busily prepare take-out orders during Tuesday’s annual fundraising 5-Alarm Chili Dinner, which supports the volunteer fire department and its members. Monies from the day-long event will support ill fire fighters and their families and also help the department in its support of community endeavors. Rice, who last week was named Volunteer Fire Fighter of the Year, said the department was expecting brisk sales this year and 90 gallons of chili had been prepared fro sale. Last year, 70 gallons were sold. Betty Shultz, an early diner, said the meal was delicious and was made even tastier by the knowledge that the event is aiding the department. “It’s nice to help people who help so many others,” said the White Hall School District retiree.
