The Redfield Volunteer Fire Department may be getting a new fire truck.
Fire Chief Dennis McFatridge told the Redfield City Council during a Tuesday, May 5, session that the department has a five-member committee working toward a fire truck purchase this year.
Meanwhile, the department is modernizing with additional new equipment. McFatridge said a federal grant is financing purchase of equipment expected to be delivered this month.
During April, the department responded to 13 rescue unit requests and fought three fires.
In other business, the police department – at Chief Jack Wakefield’s request – received council funding on a purchase of a new radar system to detect speeding motorists. The system’s price tag was listed by Wakefield as up to $2,900.
Wakefield reported that during April, police officers made 14 arrests and responded to six complaints on juveniles.
Diann Smith, chairperson of the city’s park commission, reported that the city’s revenue from a recent benefit circus was $298.05. Meanwhile, the commission has received a bid for construction of two pavilions within Redfield City Park at a total cost of $6,100.
The park will host a fishing derby on Friday, May 15, and plans are being formulated for Independence Day activities on Saturday, July 4.
Mayor George Sanders pre-sided over the council meeting. Attending were Alderwoman Sandra Garrett and Aldermen Darrell Hedden, John Jones, Tony Lawhon and James Smith.
