REDFIELD – Redfield Volunteer Fire Department Chief Dennis McFatridge recently announced that the agency has received a $16,000 federal grant, marking the fourth consecutive year for such a grant to be obtained.
McFatridge made the announcement at the Redfield City Council’s recent regular monthly session.
McFatridge reported that during February, the department responded to eight fires and made 11 rescue unit runs.
Police Chief Jack Wakefield told the panel that during February, the department handled 44 criminal and/or traffic complaints and investigated three accidents.
The department made 13 arrests and responded to eight reports of domestic disturbances.
Water department executive Chuck Croy reported that some problems with recently-activated auto-read water meters had been corrected.
Croy said the city recently received a federal National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) permit to discharge wastewater into the Arkansas River. He also said that sewage from city sewer ponds would be dumped into ponds on farmland owned by Dickey Richardson, with the effort saving “the city an added expense.”
At the request of Diann Smith, chairwoman of the city’s parks commission, Mayor George Sanders said he would determine if Street Superintendent Harmon Carter had officially relinquished his title as park superintendent.
Sanders said he would also determine authority over park roads, but assured Smith that “everything that goes on at the park” is “to be overseen by her and the park commission.”
