Television’s Dog the Bounty Hunter may not be in town, but persons wanted by the White Hall Police Department would nevertheless be wise and could save money by surrendering to authorities and not waiting until they’re confronted by officers serving arrest warrants.
Officer Tommy Kelly, normally White Hall High School’s resource officer, is concentrating his efforts during the summer months on tracking down and rounding up persons with outstanding warrants issued by the city court. Persons named on warrants might be wise to consider turning themselves into the police department before Kelly or another officer confronts them, according to Assistant Chief of Police Ricky Wingard.
“If a person surrenders and pays off their bond, they’ll be saving process and jail fees and also avoid jail time,” said Wingard. “It’s not difficult.
“All you need to do is to telephone the police department and you can arrange to meet either Officer Kelly or me during the day or Officer Celina Harbison during evening hours. We’ll be glad to give an explanation of what a person needs to do.
“We would much rather handle things in this manner so we can save time and money by not having to look for and pick up and process someone, and in exchange, the people we’re seeking can save time, trouble and a jail visit.”
Wingard said the department hopes to conduct the roundup “in as nice a manner as possible,” but added, “We mean business and we won’t be playing games.”
During the warrants campaign, The Journal will be publishing a weekly list of persons listed on active warrants.
