White Hall High School will be giving the Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT) on Oct. 14, for juniors who wish to participate in the National Merit Scholarship Corporation Program. It will also be available for sophomores wanting to take the test for practice.
This is a multiple choice style standardized test designed to provide firsthand practice for the SAT®. It gives the participants a chance to enter NMSC scholarship programs and gain access to college and career planning tools. It is composed of three sections:
• Critical reading skills
• Math problem-solving skills
• Writing skills
Students who take the test will receive feedback on  their strengths and weaknesses on skills necessary for college study that will allow focus on any areas that could most benefit from additional study or practice.  Students can also receive information from colleges by checking “yes” to the Student Search Service option on the test.
The cost is $13 and is due at time of sign ups. The College Board and National Merit Scholarship Corporation cosponsor the program.
