Members decided to keep all positions “the way that they are” during the reorganization of board session of the White Hall School Board meeting held Tuesday. Continually, after each year’s school board election, the board elects officers to serve for the year.
The board approved a request made by the Boy Scout Pack 88, Den 7, for the use of the Moody Annex Building for their weekly meetings from 6-7 p.m., on Mondays through April 2010.
The board also approved a request from the White Hall Junior High School PTO for the use of the high school football field and stadium on Oct. 27, from 6-10 p.m., for two seventh grade football games.
Other requests that met approval were from the Redfield Junior High and Hardin Elementary PTO for the use of the Hardin Elementary Cafetorium on Nov. 14, for a harvest pageant and the White Hall Chamber of Commerce’s use of the White Hall High School Cafeteria on March 1, 2010, for the chamber awards banquet which is held annually.
Two requests that did not meet approval included the use of Moody Annex for a beauty pageant fundraiser and a Valentine dance.
Shannon Lane, a parent and resident of White Hall, addressed the board about having a having a high school soccer team. Lane provided a petition with almost 200 signatures for the cause. The board could not make any decisions at this time due to issues with not yet having astro- turf on the field, however Dr. Larry Smith stated that the board would most likely be able to provide an answer by spring.
Dorothy Welch gave a brief overview on the Arkansas Consolidated School Improvement Plan (ACSIP) which is submitted annually. “All seven schools have excellent plans,” said Welch.
After a review of the ACSIP along with parental involvement plans, the board approved them as written.
A bid for a third Special Education bus was approved. The 36 passenger bus will a wheelchair lift and tiedowns. The board also approved a motion allowing Smith to accept the low bid to replace the current high school gym floor with a floating wooden floor with cutouts meeting volleyball standards.
Proposals were approved from Certified and Classified PPC’s concerning a certified bonus of $1,000/FTE for certified staff and $650/FTE for classified staff in addition to both PPC’s request for a $250 across the board adjustment to the certified salary schedule and a 10 cents per hour adjustment to the classified salary schedule.
On the personnel agenda, 17 substitute teachers were approved and resignations were approved for Taylor Elementary School Nurse, Denise Schwartz and Rita Main with the Gandy Elementary School Food Services.
Donna Robinson was approved as a classified new hire for WHHS Food Service Level I.
The next school board meeting will be held Nov. 10 at the Julius Brown Administration Building.
