Here’s a list of major campus improvements, followed by estimated costs, to be financed by the proposed 1.4-mill real estate tax increase, if White Hall School District patrons approve it in the September school election:

The overall sum of these enhancements is $7.14 million. Improvements earmarked for a proposed second phase, which will have to be financed by an additional mill hike, include a combined $7.625 million construction of a performing arts center auditorium and a multi-purposed facility at the high school, and a $1.1 million addition of permanent classrooms to replace current portable facilities at Redfield Junior High.
Meanwhile, existing district funds, and federal stimulus monies to be received, are financing other improvements. Some enhancements involving the district funds have already been completed.
Works financed by the district funds include:
• JULIUS BROWN ADMINISTRATION BUILDING – Replace HVAC units, $40,000; re-roofing, $20,000; facility total, $60,000.
• WHITE HALL JUNIOR – Re-roofing field house, $20,000; replace wood on sides and top of building, $15,000; facility total, $35,000.
• GANDY – Replace wood siding with metal siding on top of the building and bus ramp, $5,000; facility total, $5,000.
The sum of improvements with existing funds is $100,000.
Enhancements to be financed with stimulus monies include:
• GANDY – Upgrade electrical wiring to handle increased technology needs, amount to be determined; re-roofing, $150,000.
• HARDIN – Upgrade electrical wiring, to be determined; replace wood siding with metal siding on top of building and bus ramp, $5,000.
• MOODY – Upgrade electrical wiring, to be determined; replace wood siding with metal siding on top of building and bus ramp, $5,000.
• REDFIELD JUNIOR – Upgrade electrical wiring, to be determined.

• WHITE HALL JUNIOR – Upgrade electrical wiring, to be determined; upgrade security, $45,000; re-wire West Building, $4,500; replace HVAC pneumatic controls, $230,000; upgrade air handlers, $20,000.
Superintendent Dr. Larry Smith said most of these improvements formulate a “primary” $9-million list of projects, a log that “could change depending on need or changes in financial situation.” Also, Smith estimated that savings on utility bills might eventually erase expenses on upgrading electrical wiring and replacement or repair of HVAC and related equipment.
