School board okays salary adjustments

    The board approved, with full support from administration, that the proposed adjustment of an across-the-board $63 increase for classified and certified employees for the 2010-11 school year, which results in an annual starting base salary of $36,000, at the recent meeting of the White Hall School Board.
     Also during the meeting it was announced that Pine Bluff Heating and Air Conditioning’s low bid of $35,800 was accepted for the replacement of HVAC units at the administration building. “They are ready to begin work in the morning,” said Superintendent Dr. Larry Smith.
    Smith also reported that the district has received an “at-a-boy” from the Legislative Joint Auditing Committee for the 2008-09 school year. “No problems were found and we are ready for next year’s audit,” said Smith.
    In his construction update, Smith reported that the football field project was still on schedule and that the gas leak that they have been looking for years was found there and fixed, which in turn allowed the lines to be rerouted, separating Moody Elementary from the high school. He also stated that due to the contractors having to work around school activities that the other projects are running slightly behind and the rest of the work would be completed by the start of the 2012-13 school year.

    Certified retirements approved were JoAnn Dampier, Donna Lindsey, Carol Tucker, Marcia White, Marva Thomas and Doug Dorris. Resignations include Monica Lay, Ray Parks and Lou Seagraves. The hire of one classified and six substitute teacher positions also met approval.
    There were  201 certified staff contract renewals, 135 classified contract renewals, and 24 bus drivers approved for the 2010-11 school year.
    A request by the White Hall High School Choir Parents Booster Club for the use of the WHHS cafeteria for their annual choir banquet; a request for the use of the Redfield Junior High School Gym for a dance set for April 30; and a request by the WHHS Family, Career and Community Leaders of America for the use of the Moody Annex on May 6.
    The next school board meeting will be held at 6:30 p.m. May 11 at Hardin Elementary School in Redfield.
