FBT Bank names 2 new board members
FBT Bank announced the addition of two new members to its board of directors.
Charles Anderson and Lynn Wilson, both small business owners in southeast Arkansas, will join the nine-member board, according to a news release.
"Both Charles and Lynn exemplify outstanding leadership in business and in their civic endeavors," FBT President Jim Hulse said. "They also each have a profound understanding of the significance of FBT in the communities we serve, making them invaluable assets to our board. We're thrilled to welcome them as our newest members."
Anderson, from Pine Bluff, is a residential real estate developer and commercial real estate investor. He will complete the remaining two years of retiring Director Clyde Williams' term. Before his appointment, Anderson served as a member of the FBT Jefferson County Advisory Board.
"I am a longtime customer of FBT, and the bank has been instrumental in helping me meet my business goals as well as those for my family's financial well-being," Anderson said. "I appreciate the support they provide all the people of southeast Arkansas, and I'm pleased to join the board."
Wilson, a Rison resident, co-owns pharmacies with her husband that are dedicated to wellness, self-care and longevity in Rison and Fordyce. She is an active member of the Arkansas Pharmacists Association and the National Community Pharmacists Association. She will serve a three-year term on the board.
"As a business owner, I've always believed in the power of collaboration and community empowerment, and I'm excited to represent the people of Cleveland County and bring my unique insight to the FBT Board of Directors," Wilson said.
Ivy medical club to meet
The Ivy Center for Education's Future Medical Professionals "Club Scrub" will participate in a Zoom Only Scavenger Hunt from 6-7 p.m. April 2, according to a news release.
The topic will be "The Importance of First Aid Training In Our Daily Life." This health/educational activity can be played with students and parents working together.
The scavenger hunt will be conducted by Danielle Harris, Club Scrub health careers coordinator and education coordinator with the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences Regional Programs. Prizes may be won.

TOPPS to give away food
TOPPS, 1000 Townsend Drive, will hold its monthly food giveaway at 10 a.m. April 9. One box per family will be distributed. Participants must provide ID and proof of residency, according to a news release.
TOPPS requests that all individuals remain in their vehicles during the event to ensure everyone's safety.
The food distribution event is sponsored by Arkansas Community Foundation, Canaan Christian Center, Calvary Baptist Church, Northwest Arkansas Church, Pine Bluff Police Department and TOPPS.
Phi Kappa Phi inducts locals
Two local residents recently were initiated into the Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi at Arkansas State University.
Honorees are Madison Taylor of Grapevine (and Scott Kuttenkuler of Sheridan, according to a news release.
Phi Kappa Phi is the nation's oldest and most selective collegiate honor society for all academic disciplines.
Junior Olympics boxing returns to PB
The Arkansas State Junior Olympics boxing tournament will return to the Pine Bluff Convention Center, May 3-4.
Participants, ages 8-16 will come from all corners of the state to contend for a chance to advance to the National Tournament in Wichita, Kan., in June.
The Pine Bluff Gloves Not Gloves boxing club, a non-profit organization founded in 2004 by Coach Albert Brewer, provides underprivileged youth with a positive outlet away from street violence through lessons in discipline, hard work, and determination, is hosting this event. The tournament is also sponsored by the Pine Bluff Advertising and Promotion Commission.
"Gloves Not Guns and amateur boxing in Pine Bluff have received continuous support from the [Pine Bluff Advertising and Planning] Commission for a considerable time," commission Executive Director Sheri Storie said in a news release. "Coach Brewer's unwavering dedication has ensured Pine Bluff's reputation as a hub for amateur boxing tournaments, demonstrating the significant positive effects these events have on our local economy."
The event is anticipated to draw hundreds of spectators over the course of two days. The bouts are scheduled to begin at 6 p.m. on May 3 and at 3 p.m. on May 4. Admission for adults will be $10, for ages 8-17 $5, and for children 7 and younger free. Two-day passes will be available at a reduced rate.
All proceeds from the tournament will go toward supporting the Gloves Not Guns programming.
