The University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff softball team dropped its second straight weekend series Saturday.

UAPB lost both games of a conference doubleheader at Alcorn State, 1-0 and 4-1.

Alcorn State (9-26, 4-12 SWAC) had not won a SWAC series this season and entered the day next-to-last in the conference in pitching. UAPB swept Alcorn last month in Pine Bluff after scoring 21 combined runs in three games.

Nevertheless, the Lady Braves held the Lady Lions to 1 run in two games. UAPB (15-18, 6-7) has scored 4 runs in its past six games with four shutouts.

Alcorn pitcher Kiri Parker (4-10) allowed four hits and three walks with 11 strikeouts in seven innings in the first game. Ta'Niyah Fletcher (1-6) allowed 1 run on four hits with six strikeouts and six walks in seven innings in the second game.

The Lady Lions' lone run of the day came in the top of the seventh inning in game two. Shortstop Jada Carhee singled with the bases loaded to score pinch runner Jada Crusterson from third. Alcorn already led 4-0 entering the inning after scoring a run each in the first and third innings with a 2-run fifth.

UAPB ace Kayla Adams (11-6) held Alcorn to two hits in the first game. She struck out six hitters with no walks. The only run she allowed came in the sixth inning when Alcorn third baseman Genise Wells hit a sacrifice fly to center field, scoring second baseman Hannah Miller. This was UAPB's second-straight 1-0 loss with Adams pitching.

UAPB pitcher Danika Bryant (2-5) allowed 4 runs on five hits in six innings in the second game. She struck out nine hitters with three walks.

The series finale is scheduled for 1 p.m. Sunday.
