Election commissioner Stuart “Stu” Soffer has agreed to form an exploratory committee for entry into the county judge race, according to a news release.
“Over the past several months, I’ve been approached by numerous business, civic, political and religious leaders encouraging me to run for county judge, and offering awesome financial support,” Soffer said. “After praying on the opportunity and discussions with family and elected officials, I agreed to the committee being formed.” Although my principles are those of a conservative Republican, if I decide to run, it will be as an independent because many of those encouraging me are Democrats”.
The news release said that “Stu is no stranger to effectively creating and administering multi-million dollar operating budgets providing community services and managing large support operations. He did just that for over 34 years in positions of progressively greater responsibility earning promotions and numerous awards. Stu began as an enlistee retiring from the Army as a chief warrant officer, and then recruited into civil service at the prestigious United States Military Academy at West Point, NY.”
Soffer has served as county election commissioner since 2003 and state election commissioner since 2012.
Soffer has been married to the former Linda Faye Cook of Arkansas for approaching 40 years. They have four children, seven grandchildren, a great grand, two official cats and a stray, the news release said. Stu and Linda have lived in White Hall for over 21 years, and Linda is the statewide president of Master Gardeners.
