Although Mother Nature has seemingly missed the memo, fall has officially arrived in Southeast Arkansas. With the shift in temperatures approaching, it is important to make note of the seasonal flowers and plants and learn how to give them the proper care. Amanda Reynolds, owner of Amanda’s Villa Landscaping in White Hall, talks fall flower favorites and care.
According to Home and Garden, the best plants for fall color are: Garden Mums, Sumac, Beauty Berrym Oak Leaf Hydrangea, Pansies, Caryopteris, Russian Sage, Goldenrod, Blue Star Amsonia, Miscanthus Grass, Blue Fescue, Karl Foerster Feather Reed Grass, Fountain Grass, Morning Light Miscanthusm Sugar Maple, Red Maple, Japanese Maple, Black Gum, Gingko, Native Sassafras.
Reynolds said the garden mums and pansies are a local favorite during the fall season. She said the care for both plants is relatively easy.
“The mums you should water every day but don’t get the blooms wet,” Reynolds said. “If you plant them they come back every year. The pansies -they are a flower that you plant now and they will last up until March or April.”
Reynolds said another tip to keep in mind when adding color to your yard this fall is to use pumpkins and gourds.
“My favorite season for plants would have to be the fall because I love the mums. You can put these out with your pumpkins and you’ll be able to have all of that pretty color through Thanksgiving,” Reynolds said.
