Burger King Cilantro Lime BK Big Fish

Jennifer Mastroianni: SPATULA UP

Remember Burger King’s Whaler? I do. It was my favorite fast food of the ’70s. Boy, do I miss that enormous sandwich loaded with lettuce and tartar sauce. Funny thing, it was always piping hot. I recall more than a few chin scalds from molten fish juice or grease or whatever it was. No matter about the pain, the sandwich was awesome.

Not since those days have I been worked up about Burger King’s fish. Well folks, the tides have turned. The cilantro lime sauce on the Big Fish is excellent, taking this standard fish sandwich to new heights. It’s still not as good as the Whaler, but it’s pretty darn scrumptious.

I’m always a little suspicious when people tell me, “I NEVER eat fast food.” (Or that they only listen to NPR, attend art films, drink import beer and consume organic produce.) Truth is, fast-food restaurants keep adding ambitious and creative menu items.

Case in point: Burger King’s new Cilantro-Lime BK Big Fish, a very substantial sandwich that retails for $3.29. The breaded and deep-fried fish filet is served on a corn-dusted bun. What makes this worth trying is the ultra yummy cilantro-lime tartar sauce. If only they bottled and sold it!
