The Retired and Senior Volunteer Program of Jefferson County, a part of the Senior Corps of the Corporation for National and Community Service participated in a National Day of Service honoring Sept. 11. For this year’s project for the 9/11 Day of Service local heroes including Fire, Police and Military were invited to visit the area schools and read a book to each first grade class.
The book chosen for this year was the Scholastic book, September 12th We Knew Everything Would Be All Right, a book written and illustrated by first-grade students for first grade students in response to the tragic events of 9/11/01 giving a unique first-grade perspective.
The mission of the Corporation for National and Community Service is to improve lives, strengthen communities, and foster civic engagement through service and volunteering.
