The fourth annual White Hall High School Sports Hall of Fame presentation was held at the recent White Hall High School All-Classmate Reunion. Inductees were: Tom Louks, Outstanding Athlete; Glenda Burton Lybrand, Special Service Honoree; and Solon Mobley, Distinguished Service Honoree.

Louks’ induction was in recognition of his accomplishments as an athlete. A 1963 graduate, he was named to the junior high All-State basketball team his freshman year as well as the All-District 8-A North team and was again selected to the All-District team his junior year. As a Senior, he was named to the All-State team. He played in the All-star game and was selected as the Arkansas Gazette Athlete of the year for Class A basketball. He was named All District end his junior year.

“One thing I have always been is a bulldog, said Louks. The greatest team I ever played on was when I was a junior. We learned the thrill of victory and the agony of defeat.”

Lybrand’s induction was in honor of her service, dedication and accomplishments as a student athlete, teacher and life-long member of the community. A 1962 honor graduate, she was named to the All-County basketball team from 1959 to 1961 and also the All-District team in 1960 and 1961. She was also named to the All-County softball team in 1959. She started the first girls physical education program at WHHS and was named Arkansas Counselor of the Year in 1984. She was also appointed to the Governor’s Educational Advisory Committee in 1992.

“White Hall is a very special place to me. I grew up here, went to school here, and came back to teach here,” said Lybrand.

Mobley’s induction was in appreciation of his contributions to the school district as an athlete, coach and administrator. A 1960 graduate, Mobley lettered three years in basketball and was named to the All-District teams his junior and senior years. He was also selected to the All-Star team in 1960. He was selected to the All-AIC teams his sophomore, junior and senior years at Arkansas A&M ranking in the top 10 of all-time leading scorers in the school’s history. He served as a teacher and coach at Redfield for two years, 17 years as a high school basketball coach and 16 years as a school administrator.

“I enjoyed working with the children as they went through their growing pains, said Mobley. We have made alot of progress in our district and I am very proud to be part of that.”
