Two persons were injured when four vehicles, including a White Hall School District bus, sustained damages in a chain-reaction collision about 4:15 p.m. Tuesday, May 18, at the intersection of Dollarway and White Hall roads. The bus was not transporting any passengers.
White Hall Police Department Sgt. Greg Moody said a 1997 International Amtran bus, driven by Carol Stanfield, 63, of White Hall struck the rear of a 2007 Ford Taurus, driven by Betty Alexander, 64, of Pine Bluff.
The impact forced Alexander’s car into the rear of a 2007 Toyota Camry driven by Sandra Scott, 50, of Pine Bluff. Scott’s vehicle in turn struck the rear of a 2005 Hyundai Tucson driven by Rachel Barnard, 17, of White Hall.
All the vehicles had been southbound on Dollarway Road. Alexander, Barnard and Scott said they had stopped for a red traffic light. Stanfield said that the driver of another vehicle, which had been behind Alexander’s car, changed lanes suddenly. Stanfield said she was unable to stop soon enough to avoid colliding with Alexander’s car.
Stanfield was cited for careless and prohibited driving.
Alexander, complaining of pain in her neck and a knee, was transported to Jefferson Regional Medical Center in Pine Bluff by ambulance. Scott said she was experiencing pain in her left arm, but refused medical attention at the scene.
Alexander’s car sustained an estimated $4,000 in damages and had to be removed by a wrecker. The bus sustained an estimated $2,000 in damages and was driven away by Randy Reynolds, a vehicle maintenance supervisor for the school district.
Scott’s and Barnard’s vehicles sustained estimated damages of $500 and $250, respectively. Barnard and Scott were able to drive their vehicles from the scene.
